Dr. Elkington comes to the Alabama Psychiatry from Dothan, AL where he has worked in the community serving as a psychiatrist at both in-patient and out-patient settings. He will be joining the Alabama Psychiatry team and serving as a full-time psychiatrist on-site at the Dothan, AL location and remote via telemedicine at the Montgomery, AL clinic. Prior to attending medical school, Dr. Elkington was a chemical engineer for 14 years and brings the non-physician “real-life” perspective into his daily philosophy of treatment as a psychiatrist. He attended medical school and Residency at West Virginia University and feels like this time gave him a great experience and strong foundation in the field. Dr. Elkington has interests in PTSD and bettering the practical treatment of patients. He and his wife have a son going to Auburn where he is in the Auburn University band. They expanded their family one year ago and adopted a 7-year old boy that has brought additional joy to their family. In his spare time, he enjoys snow skiing, reading, basketball, and college athletics.

Megan is a Licensed Psychological Technician under the supervision of R. Sheree Bodiford, Ph.D. in the Psychological Assessment and Treatment Clinic at Alabama Psychiatry. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Auburn University in 2011. She earned her master’s degree through Auburn University at Montgomery in Psychology in 2014 while working at a group practice of psychologists in Auburn, AL. After graduation, her master’s level thesis was published in 2016. She returned to Auburn University at Montgomery to gain practicum experience and completed her practicum in 2017. She earned her Psychological Technician license with the Alabama Board of Examiners in Psychology in 2018. She currently specializes in clinical assessment of individuals of all ages with mood, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental disorders. She has also received specialty training in autism assessment at the Vanderbilt Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders. Megan joined Alabama Psychiatry in 2019 and works in the Montgomery and Auburn locations.

Karey is a Clinical Assistant under the supervision of R. Sheree Bodiford, Ph.D. in the Psychological Assessment and Treatment Clinic at Alabama Psychiatry. She began her undergraduate education at The University of Alabama, where she pursued a major in Psychology and minor in Human Development. She completed her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology in 2009 at Auburn University at Montgomery, and continued on to earn a Master of Science degree in Psychology in 2011. She currently specializes in clinical assessment of individuals of all ages with mood, behavioral, and neurodevelopmental disorders. She has also received specialty training in autism assessment at the Vanderbilt Treatment and Research Institute for Autism Spectrum Disorders. In addition to her clinical work, she manages testing scheduling coordination for the Psychological Assessment and Treatment Clinic. Karey joined Alabama Psychiatry in 2017 at the Montgomery location.

Leigh Anne Fagin is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW). She completed her Master’s in Social Work at the University at Albany’s School of Social Welfare. While there, she was selected as a Hartford Internship in Aging Scholar and focused much of her academic study on the issues of aging in older adults. Since then, she has expanded her professional practice to concentrate on the full spectrum of adulthood. Leigh Anne’s clinical concentration includes the treatment of depression, anxiety, postpartum/peripartum issues, and trauma. Leigh Anne’s therapeutic orientation is in general eclectic with a behavioral focus. She incorporates elements of cognitive behavioral therapy, cognitive processing therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and dialectical behavioral therapy based on her client’s needs. Her practice is affirming of individuals within the LGBTQ+ spectrum. Leigh Anne joined Alabama Psychiatry in November 2019. She is now accepting new patients at our Montgomery location.

Wendy Palkki is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW). She completed her Master’s in Social Work at Columbia University in 2004. Wendy has been working with a focus on adults and seniors. Clinical concentrations include individuals struggling with everyday life challenges, depression, anxiety, grief, crisis intervention, problems as it relates to the aging process, life uncertainties, and an entire realm of life issues that make it difficult to cope with everyday stress. Wendy believes in empowering individuals to identify their life challenges and work towards establishing healthy coping skills to improve each patient’s overall quality of life. An anonymous author summed it up nicely: “Life doesn’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.” Wendy joined Alabama Psychiatry in April 2018. Wendy is now accepting new patients at our Montgomery location.

Dr. Rebecca Burson is a Board Certified Psychiatrist and served to the rank of Major in the US Air Force. She attended medical school at Des Moines University and completed a general psychiatry residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UTHSCSA). Dr. Burson has a wide variety of experience that has contributed to advancing the field of psychiatry to include research, teaching, and patient-care activities. She has written and received over 1.2M in grants investigating inflammation, biomarkers and sleep as well as serving as the site Principal Investigator for the 3M Ketamine for Antidepressant-Resistant PTSD trial. Additionally, she has taught psychiatry residents as an adjunct professor at UTHSCSA. In her direct practice as a physician, she has provided inpatient psychiatric medical services to service members while in the military where she was stratified as the top physician in the Air Force for Company Grade Officers. She also served veterans at the Audie Murphy VA inpatient psychiatric unit. Dr. Burson joined Alabama Psychiatry in 2017 and desires to dynamically use her clinical skills to understand the biological, psychological, social, and spiritual aspects of her patients to best work beside them towards healing. She will be providing outpatient services at the Montgomery clinic.

Josh Eslami is a certified psychiatric nurse practitioner. Josh is a graduate of The University of Alabama at Birmingham. He first obtained a bachelor’s degree in Psychology with a minor in Biology in 2007 and then went on to receive his Masters of Science in Nursing in 2013. He has extensive experience providing nursing services for patients in the in a patient psychiatric setting for both adult and geriatric populations. Josh joined Alabama Psychiatry in 2013. He currently manages care for patients seeking care at an out patient clinic as well as in community mental health residential day programs. Josh is committed to providing psychiatric care to under-served populations, including providing access to telemedicine services.

Beverly is a Licensed Certified Social Worker who has taught and practiced social work theories and interventions for over thirty years. She was a faculty member in Auburn University at Montgomery’s Department of Sociology and Social Work for over 25 years and served on numerous community organization boards. She has extensive inpatient and outpatient experience in providing individual therapy to young adults and adults as well as therapy for couples, families, and groups. Her areas of expertise include anxiety disorders, depression, bipolar disorders, relationship issues, co-dependency issues, difficulties in adjusting to major life transitions, divorce adjustment, family of origin issues, empty nest issues, loss, the aging process, retirement, gerontology, and recovering from trauma. She uses an integrative, client-centered approach, and techniques including CBT, CPT, family systems, problem-solving, motivational interviewing techniques. Her goal is to help individuals feel safe and comfortable as they explore new ways of understanding and coping with life issues and finding satisfaction and meaning in life. Beverly is now accepting new patients at our Montgomery location.
