Dr. Krishna is a Board Certified Psychiatrist, specializing in geriatric and adult psychiatry. Dr. Krishna’s initial residency was in India from 1988 to 2001. Afterward, he moved to the United Kingdom, where he practiced psychiatry from 2003 to 2009. In 2009, Dr. Krishna moved to the United States, where he attended the Creighton and Nebraska University Residency Program in Psychiatry. He completed this program in May 2013. Dr. Krishna joined Alabama Psychiatry in July 2013. He provides inpatient and outpatient care in our Alabaster and Birmingham locations. Dr. Krishna is a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists, UK, the APA, the Medical Council of India, and the Indian Psychiatric Society.
Dr. LaRussa is a Board Certified Psychiatrist, specializing in geriatric and adult psychiatry. He attended medical school at the University of Alabama- Birmingham School of Medicine- from 1983 to 1987. His residency and a year of chief residency were completed at the same institution in the Department of Psychiatry, from 1987 to 1991. Dr. LaRussa subsequently serviced as Assistant Professor in the UAB Psychiatry Department. Since leaving academic medicine, Dr. LaRussa has worked in a variety of roles, both in the public and private sector. Dr. LaRussa joined Alabama Psychiatry in September 2016. He is experienced in both inpatient and outpatient psychiatry and works primarily in our Alabaster location.
Dr. Amin Gilani is a Board Certified Psychiatrist with a specialization in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. He earned his medical degree from Jawaharlal Nehru Medical School in India. His residency was completed at Maimonides Medical Center in Brooklyn, New York. He furthered his education by completing a fellowship in Psychoanalysis at the Institute of Psychoanalytic Education affiliated with NYU School of Medicine in New York, New York and post-doctoral/fellowship training in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Alabama, Birmingham. Dr. Gilani has primarily served his patients in the hospital settings and is now beginning to focus on providing outpatient services. Apart from his medical training, Dr. Gilani devoted his time to serve as honorary Principal for Early Childhood Development Center from 2013-2015, whose goal is to give a head start to children and to provide education about parenting skills. Dr. Gilani joined Alabama Psychiatry in 2017 and is now accepting new patients at our Alabaster and Sylacauga clinic locations.
Lauren is a Licensed Certified Social Worker (LCSW). Lauren obtained her Bachelors of Science in Human Development and Family Studies from Auburn University in 2010 and Masters in Social Work from The University of Alabama in 2013. During her career, Lauren has completed internships at Best Start Maternity Care and Walter Reed National Military Medical Center. She has clinical experience in direct practice providing social work services for the Senior Behavior Unit at Coosa Valley Medical Center from 2013-2016. Before joining Alabama Psychiatry, Lauren received training to provide Cognitive Behavioral Therapy. Lauren joined Alabama Psychiatry in December 2016 and is committed to providing each patient with quality counseling services and to improve each patient’s overall well being.
