My name is Barbara Aguilar, and I am a psychiatric nurse practitioner. My background as a psychiatric nurse for over 23 years includes substance abuse, depression, adolescent psychiatry, schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, geriatrics, and general adult psychiatry. I am a huge advocate for mental health, and throughout my career has been my passion. I have also served as a clinical instructor for Auburn University for several years. I have been published by the American Psychiatric Nursing Association. Awards include Sensory Reduction project at University of Alabama at Birmingham, presentations for American Psychiatric Nursing Association, Vizient Clinical Connections Summit Presentations, Presentation Poster for Magnet Conference in Orlando Florida.
Our mental health is at the center of our wellness. It is our outmost priority. My goal is to educate and promote optimal wellbeing. I believe that the journey to great mental health is a multifaceted journey that requires great communication between provider and patient.
Graduated from Samford University with my associate in nursing, the University of Alabama with my bachelor’s in nursing, Master of Nursing Education from Grand Canyon University, and Post Masters of Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner School from Herzing University.
I speak Spanish and English fluently and would love to serve all communities. I am open to seeing patients in the office or via telehealth. I am presently located in Vestavia, Alabama.
