Kara Byron, LBSW, MSW

I earned my Bachelor of Social Work degree in 2015 from Jacksonville State University when I also obtained my license for my Bachelors. I earned my Master of Social Work degree in 2021 from Jacksonville State University. In 2015, I started to work for the Department of Human Resources where I worked with foster children. I also worked with individuals, and families with co-occurring substance abuse and mental illness along with a variety of other challenges. I interned for 2nd Chance Inc., a nonprofit agency that provides safe shelter and supportive services for victims of domestic and sexual violence and empowering victims in their recovery. I also interned at Gadsden Regional Medical Center Behavioral Health Unit offering a continuum of psychiatric inpatient care for adult patients. I continued my work at Department of Human Resources where I remained employed until coming to Alabama Psychiatry. I am currently a therapist at the Etowah County Detention Center where I complete psychosocial evaluations, brief therapy, and suicide assessments with patients.

Outside of work I enjoy building Legos, traveling, cooking, and spending time with my partner and our three black cats.
